Global Compact on Migration Stocktaking Conference
Time: 4-6 December 2017
Location: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
A meeting of United Nations member states on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration will be held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on 4-6 December 2017 to take stock of inputs received during consultations on the proposed compact undertaken over the past six months. These inputs were gathered during consultations across all global regions, and made by a variety of different stakeholders, including Destination Unknown campaign members.
At the conference, member states will consolidate inputs from these consultations together, which will then be used to produce a first draft of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration before February 2018. This draft in turn will form the basis for negotiations between all UN member states on the final Global Compact.
The Secretary General will also present a report to provide member states with recommendations before intergovernmental negotiations begin in February 2018. There is space for limited civil society involvement in the meeting, although it will be preceded by a meeting of civil society to which some Member States will be invited.
