People’s Global Action on Migration, Development and Human Rights
Time: 5-10 December 2016
Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh
During the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), Civil society organisations (CSOs) will be meeting at the parallel event “People’s Global Action on Migration, Development, and Human Rights (PGA)” to discuss current issues on migration under the title “Mobilized and on the move: migrants changing the world”.
The PGA provides to CSOs a space where they can share information, strengthen analysis and develop joint position. The event also aims to enhance CSOs efforts to engage governments with human rights- based approaches when addressing migration issues and to hold them accountable to their international human rights and development commitments.
This year the discussion of the PGA will be focused on the following key challenges:
- Climate change and migration
- Global governance on migration
- Mixed migration
- Borders and detention
- Labour migration and recruitment reform
- Xenophobia and racism
The PGA will also include field visits that will allow the participants to learn from the work of some local organizations and get a better understanding of the socio-economic and political environment in Bangladesh that drive people to migrate.
