This side event at the UNHCR Standing Committee will present the ‘Child rights in the Global Compacts’ working document, intended to support advocacy with governments and other stakeholders leading up to the adoption of a global compact on refugees and a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration in 2018.

The working document sets out goals, targets and indicators – in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – through which six key commitments to child rights outlined in the New York Declaration can be implemented across both global compacts.

The working document was developed by the Initiative for Child Rights in the Global Compacts, a multi-stakeholder platform co-convened by Save the Children and Terre des Hommes. The side event will report back on the Global Conference on Children on the Move, which was organised on 12-13 June 2017 in Berlin, and advocate a strong global strategy to protect the rights of children on the move and other children affected by migration.

Moderated by Volker Türk, Assistant High Commissioner (Protection), UNHCR

His Excellency Juan Raúl Heredia Acosta, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Mexico
